May 2008:

Hello Everyone.

We've been incredibly quiet of late. In fact, we've been hushy. Not that we are not busy. We just haven't been telling you what we've been doing. You probably saw the trail of smoke we left as we embarked on some amazing tours in January and February: Big Day Out; LCD Soundsystem; our own sold out headline tour with Bluejuice and Seabellies. They were good, incredible, amazing. We learnt some new things, forgot some things that were probably worth forgetting anyway, and gained a new drummer. Yes! Beautifully introduced into the Dappled camp is the mega fine Allan Kumpelinen. He's tall, has highly developed skills at hitting solid things, and once killed a possum with only his back teeth and some dried up fairy floss.

We bid adieu to our friend Hugh, who is a beautiful guy and we wish him luck in making great albums from the other side of the recording desk.

We'd also like to announce our proud signing to excellent Japanese Label, Kurofune Records. Hopefully we will be announcing some shows for Japan very shortly.

Into the Studio! Like any band we move in cycles. We made an album (Granddance), toured it across the world (yes), started writing new songs (very good), started a rare breed box turtle farm (lie) and now it's time to make a new album (then tour, write, check on farm etc). Currently we have a stupidly large batch of songs that we are working on, demoing constantly and playing at various shows around the place. So keep your ears waxed to hear what's emerging from the sonic wreck of our rehearsal space.

I think if you want a clue as to what it's sounding like imagine this: We all have keyboards as well as guitars now (except our drummer Alan, who has other stuff), we love Ennio Morricone, Kate Bush and MIA; we only eat cotton products (cotton candy accepted), and instead of using fingers, we have attached mechanical hooves to our necks and play everything by leaning backwards over our instruments. Oh. and remember that song "save the Children" on Marvin Gaye's "What's going on"? Well, like that song, every lyric in the band is first spoken by a man with a deep baritone then sang by Dave or Tim in falsetto. So yeah. Top of the Pops here we come.

If you really want to hear some new stuff, we play the Come Together Festival on June 15th with VHS or BETA, Faker and The Thrills, and then ... who knows... dot dot dot

Expect the best.
